The Netherlands - Buitenzorg

Scout Tours to The Netherlands

In the heart of the Netherlands, nestled deep in the Vuursche Forest, Buitenzorg Centre has been welcoming Scouts and Guides from all over the world since 1949. Where a typical day includes team games, outdoor activities and creative workshops and a typical evening involves sitting around the campfire, toasting marshmallows under a starry sky, it doesn’t get much better than Buitenzorg!

The friendly staff at Buitenzorg run a number of exciting activity programmes throughout your stay. From archery to pioneering and hiking to biking, your group can choose the activities they want to try. Why not leave your Buitenzorg base for the day and explore further afield with visits to the nearby Dutch cities of Utrecht and Amsterdam?

The operation of this tour is subject to minimum and maximum participant numbers. Your booking is accepted on this basis. In the event that the total number of paying participants falls below the minimum number (including as a result of cancellation), we reserve the right to adjust the price payable by each participant accordingly or to cancel your booking and the tour/departure date. If any adjusted price is not accepted by you or a sufficient number of participants or we have to cancel the tour in these circumstances, you will receive a full refund of all monies paid to us (other than any amendment or cancellation charges which have already been incurred). Sample Itinerary

DAY 1: Board the coach and begin your journey from the UK to the Netherlands. Get to know your new surroundings as you attempt the on-site orienteering or geo-caching course.

DAY 2: Time to explore the local town of Baarn by taking part in the photo hike. When you have reached the town centre, you can sample the local delicacies in one of the many cafes. Return to the site and spend the afternoon on site taking part in different workshops to test your craft skills! Paint traditional Dutch clogs, make souvenir woggles, print souvenir T-Shirts and weave bamboo into dream catchers.

DAY 3: Discover how the Dutch people do theme parks by taking a day trip to De Efteling. Surrounded by scenes taken from your favourite fairytales, there is an array of exciting rides for all ages. Explore the four realms within the park walls and enjoy a different take on the traditional theme park.

DAY 4: Take the train or ride your bikes to the local town of Amersfoort. When there, you can choose your own adventure; be it a day at the zoo, a day on canoes or a day discovering the town’s history.

DAY 5: Take the train to Amsterdam. A 45 minute journey lands you in the heart of the Netherland’s capital city. Whilst there, you can explore the beautiful city from the water by taking one of the many canal cruises. Add culture into the day by visiting Anne Frank’s House or the Van Gogh Museum. Make sure to try out a Dutch waffle before you head back to base!

DAY 6: Hire bikes and cycle to one of the many local sights. A short ride can land you at a local castle, a local windmill or even a large local outdoor pool – perfect for a warm summer’s day. There are many cycle routes to choose from; giving an option for all abilities. In the evening, return to the site and enjoy camaraderie around the central campfire circle.

DAY 7: Spend the day on site trying out activities that are on offer. Navigate the site by GPS, before scaling the high ropes course and then trying your hand at archery.

DAY 8: After a fun packed week, it is sadly time to say goodbye to the Netherlands and return home by coach to the UK.

Buitenzorg site is divided into 17 campsites of varying size and your group will be allocated the one most appropriate to your group. Your tents, dining shelter and cooking shelter will be set up prior to your arrival on one of the forested campsites. Each campsite has its own campfire area and is marked out by the surrounding trees. Toilets and showers are available on site. Groups are self-catering with a shop close by to stock up for the week with groceries and fresh food.
