Earlier this month, all 20 members of Girl guiding Lancashire Border travelled to Canada for a trip of a lifetime. Here is their trip summary…
After arriving in Toronto Pearson Airport, all 20 members of Girl guiding Lancashire Border were escorted to their mini-coach to load their luggage and head to Toronto International Hostel.
Monday morning, after being split into two groups, the Guides enjoyed a delicious bagel breakfast at the hostel… well, when in Canada!
After regrouping, the Guides set out for their first experience of Toronto, starting with some sightseeing. For the next four hours, the group enjoyed a coach tour of the city with sights including the University area, old parliament buildings, China Town & Graffiti Ally.
When 1 o’clock comes around, tummies started to rumble! There was only one answer, McDonalds!
The orientation of the area continued on foot to the Eaton Centre Shopping & the new parliament building.
Day three already! And an exciting day at that. The group make their way to the heart of downtown Toronto where a visit to the iconic CN Tower was on the cards! It’s the third tallest tower in the world, standing at a whopping 1815 feet and 3 inches! This visit was a definite highlight of the tour.
After having the checking out the amazing views of Toronto from the observation deck of the CN Tower, it was time for Ripley’s Aquarium of Canada – conveniently just next door to the tower.
The group spent around 2 and a half hours at the aquarium before enjoying some time at leisure; an opportunity Girlguiding Lancashire Border took to explore the city around them.
Wednesday; it’s day four and today is the day for the group to visit the magnificent Niagara Falls!
For anyone that visits this part of the world, Niagara Falls is a must-see! The Guides well and truly got the full experience…
They started with Journey Behind the falls where, after descending 150ft by lift, the group had a view of the falls from below and behind and with the water crashing down right in front of you, this was a time to be grateful for ponchos!
Next up, Niagara’s Fury! An experience in a 360 degree multi-sensory theatre. Here, the group learnt about the ancient story of the falls. With a moving platform beneath their feet, the group quickly felt the true power of nature while surrounded by some amazing visuals!
With the sensory theatre and the walk along a board walk at the very edge of the world’s wildest stretches of white water (class 6 rapids, to be exact!), it was time for the group to begin one of Canada’s most iconic visitor experiences – a Niagara Falls cruise… amongst the mist and the equally present roar; this was a very up close experience for the group aboard the Horn blower Niagara Cruise!
A day at leisure and a baseball game is on the cards for Day five…
It seems the group had not tired of water during their previous day at Niagara Falls when they opted for a sightseeing cruise on the lake for their time at leisure!
With wonderful views of the Toronto Skyline and making the most of the many other photo opportunities they had, Girlguiding Lancashire Border made their way to the Roger’s Centre for a baseball game! (Again…when in Canada!)
While the Guides had already seen the stadium from the outside, they had an experience of a baseball game during this evening. They settled into their seats to watch Toronto Blue Jays VS. Tampa Bay Rays – to which the home team won by 3-2! #GoBlueJays
A tour to visit Black Creek Pioneer village and the Ontario Science Museum filled day six.
On day seven the group enjoyed taking the local ferry to the Toronto Islands where they visited the funfair, hired bikes and sunbathed on the beach before heading back to the Eaton Centre for more shopping.
On day eight the group traveled by subway and tramcar to visit the Canadian National Exhibition Grounds where a fun fair, shows, exhibition and a fabulous international food hall awaited their arrival!
After checking out of their hostel, the group use their last few hours in Toronto for some last-minute sightseeing and souvenir shopping! Then, it’s off to the airport… homeward bound for Girl Guiding Lancashire Border with memories and exciting stories to tell their family and friends as soon as they land on British ground!
Now… where to next?
