About Holly Garbett

Holly Garbett

Hi all! My name is Holly and I am from a town just outside of Birmingham. I have recently graduated from Plymouth University in Physical Geography and Geology.

I have been a member of Girlguiding since I was six and currently volunteer with Brownies, Guides and Senior Section. I am also an Assistant Beaver Leader and have been for the past 4 years. I absolutely love Guiding and Scouting and all the fantastic opportunities it brings! I have also been incredibly lucky to volunteer at Sangam, India, one of the WAGGGS World Centres. I love to travel and go on coastal walks. Even better if I can combine the two, and if not out exploring, I can quite often be found behind my sewing machine or working on a crochet project!

Tot Ziens De Kluis!

21 Aug 16

Wow this summer has gone quick! This is my final goodbye post and goodbye from De Kluis!

The campsite is now down and fully packed away. Thank you so much to Hydra and Rutland Explorers for helping put down camp. It is very much appreciated!

The past 6 weeks have included exploring new cities and a new culture, eating lots of Belgian chocolate and scouts challenging themselves with onsite activities. You have visited many locations including Leuven, Brussels, Brugge, Ypres and Walibi theme park.

Highlights for me include getting to eat some of the yummy food that the scouts and explorers have cooked, I have been very impressed with what you have created!

Dank u wel to all the groups that have visited De Kluis this summer. You have all been incredible and made an unforgettable summer.

What has been your highlight?

Ending the week on a high!

19 Aug 16

Ending the week on a high for hydra as they took to the trees on the high ropes course! The explorers worked really well in a team to get each member through the various parts of the high ropes course. As a photo speaks 1000 words, here are a selection photos to demonstrate just how awesome Hydra are at the high ropes course!

One very large iron crystal!

13 Aug 16

It’s the end of the week and I can’t believe how quick changeover day has come here at De Kluis. A moving day was had at Ypres on Thursday for both groups.

Friday brought tree climbing and BMXing for 2nd Keighley and 2nd Riddlesden whilst Merlin ESU took the train into Brussels.

The first new experience for Merlin ESU was mastering the underground Metro to Bruparck. Surprisingly easier than expected, they reached their first destination – the iconic Atonium: an iron crystal magnified 165 billion times!

First we travelled up to the 7th floor for views across the city and then down to travel through the other domes. There were various exhibits to walk through. My favourite was a weird and wacky light show!
