Yesterday, we had a fun filled day in Ypres. It was a lot busier than expected!
First of all we went to Hill 62, where we explored trenches, and got to see in a real life setting, trenches from the war. Following this, we went to the In Flanders Fields Museum. Here are a few quotes from the Scouts: Connor says “It was very interesting looking at all the things that happened in the war” and Catherine says “It was a very memorable experience, I will remember it forever”.
The Scouts then had free time to explore, most of them, making their way to a chocolate shop, managing to get free goodies and lots of deals! They loved the waffle shops and got to do their souvenir shopping! They loved Tommy’s souvenir shop because they had tiny teddy bears!
Yesterday was a special day in Ypres, as it was 30 000th Last Post Ceremony. The streets were full of supporters, lots of barriers and lots of press. The King and Queen of Belgium were at the event, those who were tall enough got a glimpse at them! The Last Post Ceremony was beautiful, my favourite part was when the poppy petals fell from the gate as the band played out the ceremony. It was very moving. What a memorable day!
