On Monday, we mastered efficient Swiss trains to get to and from our white water rafting experience with Outdoor Interlaken.

Our time in Spiez waiting for our connecting train was well spent, studying penknife brochures to determine what some of us wanted to purchase in the Kandersteg penknife shop!

After a lunch stop in a Swiss meadow, we geared up in wet suits, wet boots, helmets and buoyancy aids. After some instruction, we headed down to the river to launch our inflatable rafts.

The experienced instructors in each boat gave us a full run through of command, it was then time to head down the river in 4 boats. The “rule” was that when we were within splashing (soaking) distance we had to splash the other boat as much as we could. I don’t know who had the most fun on that one: the leaders or the Scouts/Explorers!

We encountered rapids throughout the route along the Simme River and tackled them well. Everyone agreed that the whole experience was great fun. The views were amazing from the river too. Our young people are aged from 10 up – it was a perfect experience for all.

Once we were back at Kandersteg, we headed to the friendly Hotel des Alpes for a pizza/local specialities dinner.
A long but exhilarating day!
