Over the last weekend, I was lucky enough to spend some time at De Kluis Scout Centre in Belgium and the surrounding area. I arrived late Thursday to the beautiful centre set in a forest – it was so quiet and set apart from the rest of the world! The quietness may have had something to do with the fact the Venture Abroad groups were still on their way back from the Battlefields day, which they found extremely moving and inspiring.
On Friday, I met our lovely Rep Holly who was really keen to show me around the site and introduce me to our groups, Hydra Explorers and Rutland Explorers. Everyone seemed in good spirits on their last day, with Rutland heading off to Aqualibi water park and Hydra hiring mountain bikes and taking on the High Ropes course on site! It was terrifying watching them so high up but a great way to get to know the activities available on site.
Saturday meant goodbye to our groups and a day in Leuven for me! I went to see where the Scout and Guide museum was as well as get to know the town a little better. It was beautiful weather and fantastic opportunity to soak up some Belgian culture as well as some sunshine!
Sunday saw us dismantle the campsite and make sure everything was there ready for our groups next year. It all managed to fit in the small trailer which I was surprised about! Then we headed back into Leuven for some food at Ellis Burger – brilliantly tasty!
Monday meant an early start and goodbye to De Kluis – the wonderful staff were incredibly helpful and made sure I had everything I needed the whole time I was there. I’m excited to talk more about this amazing destination to people in the future!
