Since hearing the sad news of the intended closure of Jeka Holidays in September 2019, we’ve taken numerous calls from past and present Jeka group leaders concerned about their future Adelboden trips. But the Venture Abroad message remains clear:
We’re committed to ensuring that British Scout and Guide groups can continue their international adventures in Adelboden, safe in the hands of our experienced team.
Over the past few months, our senior staff have been working closely with Jeka to ensure travel opportunities to Adelboden continue to prosper in 2020 and beyond. Throughout this time, we continue to learn more about Jeka’s approach and what makes their trips different to Venture Abroad’s.
We know it’s an unsettling time for groups who have been loyal to and happy with Jeka’s service and trip offerings, and here at Venture Abroad HQ we’re busy evaluating how our existing Adelboden trips can be improved using Jeka’s model.
Just last week Kelly and Colette from the team headed out to Adelboden with Shaun Taylor from Jeka to meet with local suppliers and visit chalets previously unknown to Venture Abroad.
Here’s a round-up of the chalets we visited…
Conveniently located just a short (and flat) walk away from the village centre, the Alpenflora offers a traditional and comfortable chalet experience for larger groups. Sleeping a maximum of 50 people, it’s well equipped with a large kitchen and bright dining room, as well as a small private garden to the front of the chalet.
Hari’s Chalets – Bonderlen 1, 2, 3 and 4, and Egghaus 5 and 6
We’ve worked with Hari’s Chalets for many years now, but it was great to see the properties again, particularly when comparing and contrasting with the new chalets.
The Bonderlen chalets offer a range of different sized chalets, all promising a traditional Swiss experience complete with beautiful mountain views. They’re also conveniently based near Our Chalet, making it perfect for Guide groups who want to tick the WAGGGS World Centre off their bucket list!
Alternatively, Egghaus 5 and 6 are excellent options, either individually for smaller groups or combined for larger groups, and ideally located in between Our Chalet and the village centre.
Trachsel 1 and 2
These two large chalets are family-owned and run, sleeping upwards of 60 people and known for their large and private communal space. The properties are of a good standard and within walking distance of the village centre. And there are exciting building works planned for this September, which will make the chalets even better!
Run by the Hotel Hari and sitting adjacent to it, this chalet sleeps 59 and is the closest to the village centre, boasting fantastic views of the valley. There’s a large commercial kitchen, a big dining area and a small children’s park right on your doorstep!
This chalet is also run by the team at Hotel Hari and has a good standard of accommodation. As well as a large commercial kitchen, the chalet has a first floor dining room with stunning views over the valley and a separate games/common room on the ground floor. Whilst the village centre is just a short, flat walk away.
This smaller chalet sleeping a maximum of 30 people is conveniently located on the main road to the village, but lies tucked away in a peaceful location by the river. There’s a good-sized, private garden area with outdoor games for groups to use and the property itself is well laid out, bright and airy.
Chalet Schwyzi sleeps 43 and has a traditional, homely feel to it. There’s a large outdoor field adjacent to the property which is solely for the use of chalet guests. There are also two large dorms as well as few smaller rooms for leaders – meaning this chalet offers the ultimate sleepover experience!
Sleeping a maximum 43 people, this chalet is in a great location just a short, flat walk away from the village. It has its own outdoor space and large dining room, which can be used for social get-togethers in the evenings.
All in all…
Our trip was a resounding success, owing simply to Shaun who imparted a wealth of information from his extensive resort and operational knowledge and took the time to make personal introductions (thanks Shaun!).
