Having set off early on public transport through Spiez and Interlaken to Grindelwald terminal we caught the cable car up to Eigergletscher. The ride was beautiful, and you could see for miles over Grindelwald and into the mountains. As we got further up the cloud got thicker until you couldn’t see the station, really heading into the unknown. We got onto one more train which got us to the Jungfraujoch. The views were incredible! We headed up to the main viewing platform in more lifts. You could see all the thick cloud below, but we were so high above it. You could see the glacier below and even a few mountaineers adventuring across the crevasses.

We got some photos at the top and headed in for some lunch. You could feel the altitude a little bit but not too bad. After lunch we headed down to the snow and had a snowball fight! It was still very warm in the sun so a great day to have some fun in the snow. Once we had had enough, we headed into the building which had a bit of Swiss history and ventured into the Ice Palace. This was extremely fun as you walked around surrounded by ice. There were Ice sculptures of bears, piano players, a bar and a flag of the “Top of Europe”. If you were looking carefully, you could even find Scrat from Ice Age who finally found his acorn. To exit the palace, you could ice skate though a section with bars on each side where the ice was extremely slippery.

We reached the end and headed back to the train. On the way back down the cable car the scouts serenaded us with song such as Wonderwall and Sweet Caroline. These songs continued as we met up with the other group and walked back to the train. As we were early for the train a dance party broke out including the Macarena and the Cha Cha slide. George the Monkey even crowd surfed!

Unfortunately, our train back was cancelled so we had to wait a little longer at the station but nothing an ice cream couldn’t fix!

We had such a great day visiting the top of Europe and would recommend it to any other group who visited Adelboden!
