So, another week over and it’s time to say goodbye to 9th Airedale and 1st Earls Barton Before we do, what have they been up to over the past few days?

9th Airedale have had some amazing action packed days, in their separate groups they have done overnight hikes, canyoning, (not canoeing as one of the leaders thought, until just before jumping off a cliff!) white water rafting, high ropes and river tubing.

On the Explorers’ second overnight hike they tried their hand at ice climbing, where they were lowered down a crevasse and had to climb back up!

A few also braved the famous Allmenalp Via Ferrata! Via Ferrata involves scaling a rock face using fixed pegs, ladders and bridges, you are clipped in to a metal wire that runs along the route. The Allmenalp Via Ferrata is rated 4 out of 5 on the difficulty scale, scales 350 metre up and even crosses the waterfall on 30 metre rope bridges! Completing it is an achievement they will never forget and certainly tested their nerves!

1st Earls Barton also had a great time on their overnight hikes and put in an impresive effort at KISC’s Race the World event.

The guys also had great last day at the Brigabad Thermal Pools! You would think thermal pool means a relaxing day? Not with 1st Earls Barton. The scouts (and leaders) enjoyed hurtling down the 180 meter flume before finally relaxing in the 30 degree pool! (which oddly is a funny greeny yellow colour!) Most importantly…….the sun was shinning! An excellent day which I would highly recommend to all groups!

Both groups rounded off their last day at the International Campfire! Unfortunately a perfectly timed thunderstorm resulted in some very soggy Scouts. They battled through and of course, being Scouts were fully prepared with waterproofs on hand (not!). Both 1st Earls Barton and 9th Airedale joined in with some great campfire songs! What would you sing at the International Campfire?

Tomorrow I’m welcoming 150th Wadsley Church Scout Group, Aspley Guise & Woburn Scouts and Mid Sussex Explorers! I’m looking forward to sharing their adventures with you!
