4th Cork Scouts have had a fine few days in the Swiss Alps making the most of the stunning scenery and the gorgeous weather!
The highlight of the last few days was the hike up to the Ueschinen valley this morning to watch the sunrise at a very early hour. Even though the hike was steep to say the least!… and getting up at half 3 in the morning (which back home for the group in Ireland is half 2), the hike was thoroughly enjoyed by all the scouts who found it a fantastic adventure especially hiking in the dark and eating breakfast in the mountains high above the Kander Valley!
The Evolving-Alps Hike was enjoyed by all the scouts, who learnt about the formation of the alpine mountains and got to enjoy the spectacular Gasterntal valley which is very Jurassic Park-esque. Lugging lots of wood for firewood was part of the service project for the scouts who were surprisingly enthusiastic! The abseiling and crate stacking were apparently greatly enjoyed by the scouts as it gave them a chance to try a different activity and for some of them it was a real challenge that they really enjoyed!
The Ventures are currently out on the overnight three-valleys hike which takes the group up into the Ueschinen Valley where they stay at the KISC Upper-hut before hiking over the mountain ridge into the spectacular Gemmi-pass the following day with it’s crystal-clear alpine lakes and lined by mountains on either side!
Another group is having a fantastic time at KISC, will it be your turn soon?
