Hello all, for the last time – at least this year! I know, I know – it’s been a couple of weeks since I left the Netherlands, and various busy projects have kept me from writing one last farewell blog post. But here we are! The season at Buitenzorg finished on the 13th of August with the departure of Kent Scouts. A sad day indeed! I can’t believe how fast the season went by and what a multitude of activities and adventures we managed to cram into a single summer.
Working as a resort rep for Venture Abroad has been a fantastically enriching experience. From skiing to high ropes to exploring the cities of the region, both myself and the groups I worked with got to expand our understanding of the Netherlands at the same time as having loads of fun! For me, the highlight of the season has to be my spectacularly embarrassing fall at the Snow Planet ski centre in Amsterdam. As mildly humiliating as it was, I had so much fun seeing all the kids (and leaders!) enjoy themselves on the slope and I was happy to be the worst of the lot, if only to provide entertainment to everyone involved.
To round things off, I’d just like to thank all of the groups I worked with this summer for being so involved and making the summer such a brilliant experience. I’ll miss you all, especially the brilliant Kampstaf at Buitenzorg who really went above and beyond to help me with any problems I experienced. It’s goodbye to Buitenzorg, Baarn and the Netherlands for now, but I’m sure I’ll be back one day soon!
