Goedeavond! My name is Hannah and I’m the VA rep for Buitenzorg Scout Centre in the Netherlands this summer. I’m writing this blog post from my fantastic host house in Baarn, just down the road from Buitenzorg.
What a busy 24 hours it’s been! I arrived at Amsterdam Schiphol last night and I’m already feeling right at home thanks to a bike tour of the town by my host this morning. I’ve been busy getting to know the area and putting my Dutch to the test in some nearby shops, but the real treat of the day was finally getting to visit the Scout Centre itself. I can’t wait for all the groups to arrive over the coming weeks and get stuck in! The ‘Kampstaf’ have all been so friendly and the site itself is truly stunning – the great weather today meant the woods where the Centre is located were extremely busy with plenty of Dutch Scout groups having a great time exploring the on-site activities.
In a couple of days we’ll be putting up the tents, and then all we’re waiting for are the first groups themselves (3rd Wingerworth Scouts, Newhaven Scouts and Gainsborough Guides) to arrive on Saturday. This is going to be an exciting summer!
