The Clifton Methodist Scouts are experiencing the spectacular swiss alps of Adelboden. We hear more from VA rep Georgie about their adventures.
The weekend: no rest for the wicked… or for the Clifton Methodist Scouts
As soon as the boys had got off their coach on Saturday, they headed up into the main Adelboden village to cool off in the outdoor pool.
Sunday threw the scouts in at the deep end – they hiked 400m of ascent in the Swiss summer sun from Kandersteg to Oeschinensee, a sparkling turquoise glacial lake, surrounded by beautiful mountains.
(Overheard on the hike)
Leader: “Ain’t no mountain high enough!”
Scout: “Yes there is.”
One and a half hours later we reached the lake, and after a quick picnic stop for lunch, all the boys were ready to jump into the inviting blue waters… some feeling a little less invited than others – the lake is fed by glacial waters and melted snow so it can feel a little fresh! Soon enough everyone was in and having a great time.
It clearly wasn’t too cold though, as we followed up our swim with the first ice creams of the trip on our walk over to the surprise activity: the mountain coaster toboggan run!
Lots of our guests may recognise this as the “viral mountain toboggan run you must try in Switzerland” after it became an online hit and today the Clifton scouts gave it a go. You whizz around the track as you take in the spectacular views satisfying your need for Swiss scenery and your need for speed in one. Scouts and leaders alike enjoyed this one too!
Finally, the boys experienced their first cable car of the trip on the way back down from the 1578m-high lake. The cable car was a welcome treat after the action-packed day and a very Swiss experience.
Stay tuned for more adventures from Clifton Methodist Scouts.
