After a hectic couple of days (and early starts) at Our Chalet and the Jungfrau, we had a relaxed start to the morning and a lazy breakfast of bacon and eggy bread before setting out into Kandersteg and out the other side to catch the gondola to Oeschinensee.
At the top, we started the gentle walk to the lake (supposedly taking 15 mins but at our ambling pace, more like 20). The lake – wow. It is a stunning mountain lake surrounded by the most amazing scenery. Straight away, some of us were in and paddling/wading/swimming! The rest of us set up camp under a shady tree on the bank. Our plan was to spend a few hours there relaxing, but we had come prepared with threads for making bracelets, henna and card games.
We stayed for 3 hours but really would have been happy to stay for longer. However, we left knowing that our next stop was the Rodelbahn! The Rodelbahn was fast and fun – so much so that we each went round twice! I think the photos say it all!
Back down in the village, we joined the KISC parade through the village to celebrate Swiss National Day. We sang and shouted our way through, with just 20 of us drowning out the large group of Scouts ahead of us. In the evening we joined the locals in the village to watch the fireworks. It was the perfect end to our amazing week away!
