Starting off with a bang is surely an understatement for the Explorers and Network from Ilford! The week began with a steady hike up to Oeschinensee on Sunday including a cheeky dip in the freezing cold lake – bearing in mind there was no sun to be seen at all till the afternoon.

On Monday the Explorers hiked up to the Ueschinen valley, around 600m above KISC, to have a go at the climbing rocks in the upper valley. Their plans were soon dampened however, by the torrential downpours which lasted pretty much the whole day. The Network are currently on an eventful snow and ice expedition, yesterday making their way across the glacier to the Mutthornhutte at 3100m! By all accounts, I think they’ll have some stories to tell for years to come.

Today the first half of Explorers have headed off to the Frundenhutte on the Snow and Ice Combo where they will be learning a great variety of skills required when taking on the Glaciers including roping up and quite possibly some ice climbing.

I’m sure they’re all in for a great week if it continues to be as exciting as the previous few days!
