Our lovely two Adelboden Reps for this summer, Georgie and Manon, went out to Switzerland last week to get ahead of the game and make sure everything is shipshape for when our groups arrive. Having hiked the hills and toured the sites themselves, exciting stuff is on the horizon! Take a look at their adventure so far…
Day one started hot and sunny, so we were up bright and early for a tour of the accommodation where the VA groups will be staying this summer. We then popped by the Guiding World Centre, Our Chalet, for an introduction to this beautiful location. We also got chance to take in the views from the top of the hill!
In the afternoon, we toured Adelboden town, checking out the traditional Swiss church and shops, and even making a treasure hunt (keep your eyes peeled for this in a future blog).
Wednesday began by meeting the hosts of Adelboden Adventure Park, where our groups will be ziplining and high-roping back and forth across the picturesque Allenbach river. After a brisk hike across the valley, our second stop off was at a traditional Swiss woodcarver’s shop. Here, groups will have chance to learn about the trade of woodcarving and receive their personalised woggles made from cherry wood.
Up bright and early, we visited the crashing Engstligen falls. At the top of these falls, groups will be meeting traditional Swiss cheesemakers and sampling some of the delicious local produce. Afterwards, we took a bus round to the next valley. We then caught the dizzying cable car up to Oeschinensee, a classic alpine lake surrounded by high glaciated peaks and a backdrop of lowing cows and clanging cow-bells. Last stop of the day was Kandersteg, where we met reps Dan and Kate for a brief tour of the World Scout Centre, KISC.
Tomorrow we’re off to Interlaken to check out the chocolate show and a Swiss castle, before we get ready to meet and greet our groups on Saturday!
