The first week of my five-week ‘Venture Abroad’ has already been full of excitement. My whole week has been spent exploring the beautiful places that our scout groups will be visiting throughout the summer.
I decided to ease myself in to the famous Dutch Land, so began my adventure going for a bike ride all around Baarn. I visited some of the most well-known local tourist sites, such as the beautiful country manor Castle Groeneveld, and the famous royal family home Soestdijk Palace… if you love the stately homes in the UK, Baarn is the place for you! On my bike ride through Baarn I stopped off at the Buitenzorg Scout Centre to say a big hello!… or shall I say ‘Hallo!’ as do the Dutch.
Everyone here constantly has a big smile on their face! The volunteers who work on site are extremely helpful, along with the fantastic owners, Mirijan and Ron! Buitenzorg Scout Centre is the place to be for the summer, as there is always something exciting going on!
My next destination for Dutch Land was the elegant city of Amersfoort. Here you can find a café on nearly every corner where you can indulge in a lovely cup of coffee and classic piece of Dutch apple pie. Amersfoort is also super adventurous, with the option to canoe all along the classic Dutch canals, not forgetting the famous Amersfoort zoo!
My final city destination of my exciting week was the medieval old town of Utrecht. Here I visited the spectacular Dom Tower, which made me feel as though I had travelled back in time 2000 years! I spent my day strolling along the beautiful canals, going into traditional shops, and eating lots of cheese at the wonderful market.
I am so excited to be spending my summer visiting such incredible places, to embrace and explore all things Dutch Land!
