Snowballs at the top of the Jungfrau!

Sorry for not keeping you all up to date this week- I have had a real problem with the WiFi here so I am afraid I’ll just have to write one fantastic blog jam packed full of updates and goings on!

Sunday was an eventful day for the 1st Somercotes Guides with a visit up the Jungfrau, complete with a sing along with a group of American tourists on the train from Kleine Scheidegg and then a snow picnic, snowball fight and lots of fun at the Top of Europe! It really was a fantastic day and although we returned exhausted it was worth it! Meanwhile the 1st Barnsley Explorer Scouts had a slightly more relaxed day exploring Adelboden and the Cholerenschlucht Gorge which is really impressive!

Stunning views from the top of the Schilthorn!

Monday was another busy day as I accompanied the Barnsley ESU to the Truemmelbach Falls, a stunning set of glacial waterfalls near the pretty village of Lauterbrunnen. The weather was great and I think they even managed to keep up with me when we changed trains! The Somercotes Guides had a day in Adelboden and visited the Engstligen Alp and paddled at the base of the impressive waterfall.

Tuesday saw Barnsley Explorers at the top of the Jungfraujoch, where they had a great time and were a hit with other foreign tourists due to their quirky hats! Somercotes enjoyed a boat trip to St Beatus’ Caves and then continued to Interlaken for the chocolate show!

And what a day Wednesday was for both groups- I went up the Schilthorn with Barnsley Explorer Scouts and the views were absolutely stunning. It was a day where our trip seemed to be accompanied by Benny Hill music as an extra bus was sent for us from Adelboden, meaning we were running a little late. This did not, however, phase the bus driver who gave us a roller coaster ride to Frutigen train station to get us to our connecting train on time. In keeping with the James Bond theme the Schilthorn has it felt like we were in a car chase scene!

Kandersteg was the destination of the Somercotes Guides yesterday and they had a tour of KISC and then went up to the Oeschinnensee by cable car. A local newspaper even took a snap up there yesterday and published it, so I left it with them for a slightly alternate version of “Where’s Wally?” I think they had managed to locate a few guides!

Today was slightly more relaxed for Somercotes who enjoyed a swim and adventure park Rehaerti and Barnsley enjoyed an action packed day white water rafting in Interlaken.

I shall be sad to wave the groups off tomorrow, it has been a truly great week!

And now I can’t seem to upload photos, so they will follow- I think the internet dislikes me!
