Following an epic start to Gisburn Brownies and Guides trip to Denmark, they have told us all about the rest of their trip. Let’s see what they got up to…
Sensational swelteringly fun at Legoland today with water rides aplenty. We had a hearty breakfast and bussed our way to Billund, where the fun really began. It was rapidly obvious that staying in a group of 19 was simply not possible! Guides loved the Polar X-plorer, Viking Splash and Extreme Racers the most, whilst Brownies favoured Viking Splash, Flying Eagle and The Lego Canoes. The ice creams were immense, and much needed on such a hot day.
Everyone enjoyed Miniland and spotting places they knew and we were excited to see the Nyhavn in Copenhagen where we are going on Thursday.
Frances said ‘my favourite thing was EVERYTHING’. The bus home was a chance for some of the group to have a quick snooze, and dinner was delicious chicken and rice.
Roll on Wednesday and a day at the zoo.
‘Best Trip Ever’ said Esther today after a busy day at the zoo. Lions being fed, gorilla babies and towering giraffes were all much admired, along with elephants, coatis, camels, bison and spider monkeys. The safari bus was a trip around several continents and everyone loved the shop and ice creams.
Some of the group stayed to visit flamingos, lemurs, Pygmy hippos, parrots and many more, whilst the rest of the group returned to the hostel for some games and drinks. After our last evening meal at ‘Danhostel’ we did a couple of activities and games for a badge before finishing our last evening with a water fight.
What a lovely day. Our last tomorrow but we are looking forward to exploring Copenhagen. Tak og godnat!
Another day of glorious sunshine for our trip to Copenhagen! After another delicious breakfast at Danhostel Givskud Zoo, and packing up a very generous lunch including fresh baked sausage rolls, we took a bus and train to the capital. The sea bridges were enjoyed again on the way and we packed our luggage into the lockers at the Central Station.
A lovely walk around this beautiful city followed, waving to people on boat tours and seeing various sights including the Christiansberg Palace. We walked to the Nyhavn where waffles and ice creams awaited-they soon cooled us down! Harriet said the lemon and raspberry sorbets were the most scrumdiddlyumptious thing she’d ever tasted!
A boat tour next, around the city, which included the Little Mermaid and other sights. After renewing our Girlguiding promises at the end of the harbour we walked to take a bus back to the station.
We all enjoyed the airport and yet another cold drink before travelling back to Manchester where a welcoming committee of parents was waiting. Many of the group slept for the journey back. Huge thanks all involved for a terrific trip.
We’ve had a wonderful time in Copenhagen and beyond and it’s time for us to sign out from our trip, taking amazing memories with us. Our group of 8 Brownies, 5 Guides, 2Young Leaders and 4 leaders have eaten 7 portions of waffles, at least 85 ice creams and lollies and drunk litres and litres of water! We’ve used almost every krone and nearly 2 bottles of sun cream and travelled over 1400 miles. Above all we have had an incredible amount of fun and laughter and new experiences and earned about 88 badges!
Our trip highlights are definitely Legoland rides and Lego creations, the lions at the zoo and the water fight that our young leaders arranged on the last night, along with our boat trip in Copenhagen and an epic train journey between Copenhagen and Billund. Everyone enjoyed the food and a chance to chill out at the hostel. Being away with friends must be one of the best starts to the Summer holiday ever!
Our Brownies and Guides described the adventure as ‘the best trip ever’ and ‘amazing Guiding trip’ and we are delighted to have run this fabulous residential which, thanks to our fundraising was open to #everygirl in our unit.
The only question that remains is…where next? Suggestions from the Guides include Spain and Portugal whilst the Young Leaders are convinced Australia would be the perfect choice…
