All settled in and ready to start their adventures, on Monday 1st Malden Scouts went into Leuven to visit the climbing centre. Here they had a great time climbing the walls and belaying for each other, with one excited scout telling me the walls were 25 metres high! After climbing we tried our hand at the caving simulator they had in the centre. This proved a challenge for many of the group but by using teamwork to get themselves through they managed and, after initially doubting whether they’d enjoy it, many came out saying they loved it! On Tuesday, the scouts tried their hand at the hike and canoe trip offered. The hike they handled no problem, arriving ready to go at the canoe start point. With the nettle filled banks (mostly) successfully avoided and everyone (mostly) remaining in their canoe we headed back to camp, arriving just in time to avoid walking in the storm we had!

The guides too had a fun filled few days. On Monday they tried their hand at the on site BMX and tree climbing course, which resulted in many muddy happy guides. On Tuesday they made their way into Brussels, where amongst other things they visited the chocolate museum. Here I’m told there was demonstrations, talks and lots of free samples. I may have to go there myself soon!!
