A great week so far with the Whitley Bay and Royal Tunbridge Wells Scouts. Both groups have been super busy hiking in the Alps and enjoying Kandersteg’s delights. We had perfect weather for the Rodelbahn and swimming in the lake – a little chilly to start, but everyone had a great time.
An exciting train ride to the ‘Top of Europe’ was enjoyed in varied weather from blazing sunshine to light snow, both with extraordinary views for our troops. The ice grotto was a favourite for some, and the opportunity to have a snowball fight for others! The varied weather made the hikes quite challenging, but both groups did very well.
Everyone took part in 2 day hikes around Kandersteg to the Ueschinen, Gfellalp and Lochen huts. The weather held out and everyone had a challenging but good experience with the opportunity to stay in a mountain hut.
The evening after hikes entertained all with the ‘Race the World’ where groups would compete in funny races in small teams waddling like penguins and carrying water! Although a little soggy at the end, everyone had big grins on their faces, including the leaders.
