We have been very lucky with the weather – this week has been gloriously sunny.
After an early wake up and breakfast on Wednesday, we hopped on the coach to the picturesque town of Pickering. Here, we boarded the steam train to ride the North Yorkshire Moors Railway.
After finding our reserved carriage, we settled down and most bought refreshments before sitting back and enjoying the beautiful views of the moors as the train travelled along. On route, our train passed through the station of Goathland. This station is famed for featuring in the first Harry Potter movie as Hogsmeade Station and featured as Aidensfield in Heartbeat. An hour and a half later, we arrived at the fishing town of Whitby.
Some of the Trefoil ladies took on the challenge and climbed up the 199 steps, reaching Whitby Abbey. Others opted to discover all there is to know about Captain Cook at the Captain Cook Museum. The hop on bus was also a firm favourite, with many of the ladies taking a ride around the town this way.
Thursday was our final full day. First off, we visited one of the first Cistercian abbeys, Rievaulx Abbey where we walked around the ruins accompanied by an audio guide. The afternoon concluded with a self-guided tour around Helmsley Walled Gardens.
Now the post-tour has come to an end, it’s time to make our way home. A huge thank you to the Trefoil Guild ladies for a lovely week and I hope you have a safe back journey home.
