A farewell fire in Buitenzorg Scout Centre

With the week drawing to a close the 1st Westlands Guides and 1st Burnham and Hitcham Scouts managed to get a farewell campfire in. It’s been so warm here in the Netherlands that there has been a ban on all fires, but luckily, it was lifted just in time for Friday! They were full of songs, games and looking back at the week full of fun they’d just had!

On Wednesday the Guides tried their hand at archery, run by the amazing Kampstaf at Buitenzorg! We then went on a day trip to Amsterdam on Thursday; having a canal cruise in the morning before visiting the gardens of the Rijksmusem. This felt like walking into a movie scene with easels and canvases dotted around and a fountain you could stand in to take photos and enjoy the water on a hot day! With plenty of time for souvenir shopping before catching the train back from Baarn they had a fantastic day!

The Scouts played mini golf and went for a swim at the local outdoor pool, only getting a little competitive! They caught the train to Amersfoort to explore the local zoo, including the (very secure) rope bridges above some of the animal enclosures!

Both groups had a favourite activity on Friday, Adventure City Rotterdam! A high rope and zip line course with different levels for everyone’s confidence, there was even some where you had to cycle along a zip line – very Dutch!

It’s sad to say goodbye to these two groups, we’ve had a fun week together! But the groups are look forward to their own beds once again and I’m excited to introduce my next group to Buitenzorg!
