We had another early start to the morning ready for our action packed day in Brussels. All the scouts and guides were ready to set off when the coach driver arrived with the news that U2 would be playing a 50,000 seater stadium in Brussels this evening and that all roads around the stadium would be closed – right where we were going!
So we decided to try our luck anyway and head for Brussels, not knowing how we would get back to camp! We made good time to Brussels and headed straight to mini-europe (with strict instructions from the driver to meet the coach at 4pm and not a minute later!).
All the group enjoyed seeing the different landmarks of europe – and taking endless photos of the Ranger duck in front of each one!
This was swiftly followed by a visit to Atomium where, after queueing for what felt like hours we took a very fast lift straight to the top. This proved to be well worth the wait when we saw the amazing views from the top!
Our visit to Brussels was rounded off with a trip to Oceade water park. This proved a firm favourite of the day with everyone making the most of the session with endless goes on the water slides & rapids.
This visit ended with a fast walk back to the bus where we just managed to escape the concert crowds descending on the city.
We finished off our evening with a boys vs girls game of rounders. This quickly descended into friendly chaos with lots of claims of cheating on both sides – although no one actually knows who won!
Our thoughts this evening have all turned to tomorrow and our visit to the battlefields around Ypres. Needless to say this will be a very moving and thought provoking experience for all.
