Sample Itinerary

Day 1: Depart the UK for Keflavik airport. From here, it’s just a 2 hour drive to Ulfljótsvatn Scout Centre.

Day 2: Your first day in Iceland and what better way to familiarise yourselves with the area than with a full day hiking, 15km deep into the mountains! A soak in a hot spring eases those muscles before you’re guided back to camp for a well deserved night’s sleep.

Day 3: Spend the day at the centre taking advantage of the many activities on offer; obstacle courses, Frisbee golf or a climbing wall.

Day 4: Hop on your coach for one of the most popular excursions; the Golden Circle Tour. Here you’ll witness plateaus, waterfalls, geysirs, bubbling hot-springs, farmland and geological phenomena – all that Iceland is famous for!

Day 5: Put yourselves in the capable hands of the Scout Centre staff as they lead you on the Reykjavik Triple Play for a full day exploring the city. Jump on board a boat and listen for the shout ‘whale ahoy’ on a whale watching safari before spending the day exploring the many activities on offer in the capital city.

Day 6: It’s back to the water as you grab your canoes and paddle across Lake Úlfljótsvatn. A brief stop at Hrutey Island lets you stretch your legs before continuing to Steingrimsstod. Leaving your canoes behind you’ll hike to a nearby cave where, with the help of an expert instructor and climbing gear, you’ll pass the entrance of the cave. It’s then back to the canoes for your return trip.

Day 7: More than 11% of Iceland is covered by glaciers, so grab your crampons and ice axes and get out exploring them! Your guide will take you up close to the white and blue iced rivers pointing out features such as water cauldrons and waterways and even letting you drink some of the glacial water, naturally chilled and good enough to bottle - this is an experience like no other!

Day 8:
The last day of your tour and there’s just time to visit the mineral rich mud found at the Blue Lagoon before continuing to the airport to return home.

Úlfljótsvatn Scout Centre

Your base will be the hub of Icelandic Scouting, the Úlfljótsvatn Scout Centre. In this Scout Centre, you’ll find yourselves in the depths of Iceland’s wilderness on the shores of Iceland’s coldest and second largest lake Úlfljótsvatn. From here, exciting adventures await!

The Scout Centre has accommodation in two indoor huts as well as campsite space complete with shower blocks. For those camping, all tents and cooking facilities are provided on-site meaning your group can travel light and waste no time heading out to explore the exciting new surroundings.
