Winter 2010

Disneyland Paris

January 2010 saw 2,500 guides descend on Disneyland Paris for two fun filled weekend breaks! Venture Abroad helped to celebrate the Centenary over the weekend by putting on a special evening of entertainment exclusively for members of Girlguiding UK at Disney’s Fantasy Festival Stage. Many Brownies and Guides had the opportunity to take part in this special event and we would like to say a big thank you for all the hard work that went into their performances. We also had two very special guests join us at the event, Minnie and Mickey Mouse, which made it even more memorable for all involved.

Great Guide Getaway to Switzerland

Soon after our return from Disneyland Paris the Venture Abroad team were off again, but this time to Switzerland. We joined 655 leaders and guides from across the UK to experience the winter wonderland of the Bernese Oberland, which is home to the WAGGGS World Centre, Our Chalet as well as many other highlights including a visit to the Jungfrau and day of igloo building and snow shoe walking! A fantastic week was had by all!

Spring 2010

Mexico & Disneyland Paris

As well as further tours to Disneyland Paris this Easter, we had a globetrotting guide group visit another WAGGGS World Centre, Our Cabaña in Mexico. They joined in with the Easter Celebrations Programme where they experienced a campfire arranged with guides from Cuernavaca along with a salsa evening. They also had the opportunity to visit Xochicalco archaeological site, a wonderful pyramid village and Tepotzlán a charming, traditional Mexican craft town nestled in the foothills of the Sierra Madre Mountains.

Summer 2010

As the summer months drew in, the international visits continued as groups visited all corners of Europe including Iceland, France, Croatia and of course not forgetting the favourite destination, Switzerland.

20.10.2010 – the final day and the final words…

There were many international opportunities for members of Girlguiding UK to celebrate the special year and Venture Abroad is extremely proud to have been a part of it. We have been able to see first hand the memories of a life time being created as well as friendships being made and the new experiences to be had, not forgetting all of those ‘mountain top moments’!
