Centenary Celebrations
Venture Abroad is proud to be working in partnership with Girlguiding UK to assist Guides from across the UK celebrate 100 years of Guiding - nothing less should be expected from such a special year. We have designed a number of international adventures as part of our "Venturing Into 2010" travel programme in which Guides can celebrate the Centenary in destinations such as Disneyland Paris, Adelboden in Switzerland, Iceland, Canada, Our Cabaña in Mexico or even the Sangam World Centre and Golden Triangle in India!
This year we've been working hard to help many Guiding units create their very own 'Great Guide Getaway'! Here is just a quick update on the types of Centenary Celebrations taking place all around the world!
Iceland
Over 100 Guides, Senior Section members and Leaders are off to explore the wonders of Iceland during the centenary year. Highlights of the tours are set to include the once in a lifetime experience of the Golden Circle tour and taking a dip in the warm waters of the Blue Lagoon.
Disneyland Paris
Over 2000 people are taking part in Venture Abroad’s magical centenary weekends at Disneyland Paris in January. The magic goes one step further in 2010 with every Brownie, Guide, Senior Section Member and Group Leader being invited to the fun-filled Disney and Guiding themed centenary party at Disney’s Fantasy Festival Stage! Groups have the chance to let the entertainer out of them and join the acts on stage for what is set to be a memorable evening for all involved.
Mexico
The special centenary celebratory trip to Our Cabaña in Mexico is departing in March 2010. Groups will participate in the varied Easter Celebrations programme run by the Guiding Centre as well as having the opportunity to explore and discover the wonders of Mexico.
Switzerland
Hundreds of Guides and Leaders have chosen the summer of 2010 to travel to Adelboden and the nearby towns and villages. Experiences can include a centenary fondue evening, a trip to the highest train station in Europe and a memorable day at Our Chalet.
Capital Jig
Venture Abroad are proud to have been given the opportunity to provide tours in conjunction with GirlGuiding LaSER’s Capital Jig Event which took place in October 2009. LaSER picked 5 European Capital Cities London, Edinburgh, Paris, Copenhagen and Prague to stage the event which culminated in a giant jigsaw of centenary experiences being built. Venture Abroad took passengers to Copenhagen, Paris and Prague and a fantastic time was had in each location!
Great Guide Getaway
Over 700 Guides and Leaders are setting off to spend a snow-packed week in Switzerland next February! With a different activity everyday from Igloo building to visiting Our Chalet high up on the mountainside, participants will discover for the first time, or re-discover why Switzerland and Adelboden is so adored and treasured by all sections of the Guide Movement.
