The Scouts thoroughly enjoyed their hike and canoe, and it really did leave them exhausted – although that didn’t stop them...Read more

Day 1: The excitement begins as soon as you set off for Belgium and, after arriving in Calais, there's not long to go until you're settling into camp. Get to know your surroundings quickly as you attempt the onsite orienteering course and meet your VA Rep.
Day 2: Take the train from Sint-Joris-Weert to the nearby university town of Leuven and visit the Scout Museum which is only open on Sundays. Leuven is a beautiful town with an extremely well maintained town centre. Admire the impressive gothic Town Hall (which houses the information bureau) and St. Peters Church which are both located in the Great Market Square, and wander along the many narrow streets, packed with shops, bars, cafes and restaurants. Spend the afternoon at the indoor climbing and caving centre, bowling centre or swimming pool. (Minimum age: 17 yrs).
Day 3: Spend a day exploring the activities on site and try your hand at the Adventure Ropes Course and BMX course.
Adventure Ropes Course
Teamwork is the key to a successful session high up in the tree tops at De Kluis Scout Centre. Your group will be shown the ropes by a qualified instructor before heading onto the course where the adventure begins. There are a number of different parts to the tree top course, each posing an exciting challenge! All necessary equipment is provided and instructors speak good English.
Guided BMX course
Take part in a brand new activity on site. Follow your guide through the forested area at De Kluis and enjoy the thrills and spills of the exhilarating track. All necessary equipment is provided and instructors speak good English.
Day 4: Take the train or bus to the beautiful city of Bruges, where you can visit the diamond museum or taste some of the famous Belgian chocolate at Choco-Story. After shopping, gaze with awe at the stunning architecture on a canal cruise, or being guided through the city by bike, stay in town for your evening meal.
Day 5: De Kluis is set in 20 acres of forest with plenty of hiking trails from the site. Why not hire mountain bikes and discover the surrounding area on two wheels or don your boots and go by foot. There is a total of 30 km of bike trails round the site that will keep the fittest of you occupied. You can obtain maps of the area from reception for free.
Day 6: Pay your respects today to those who fought in World War One as you visit the battlefields and memorials of Ypres and the Somme. This is an emotional visit which can be combined with a trip to the Menin Gate in Ypres to witness the Last Post Ceremony which has been held at 8.00pm, every evening since the end of the war.
Day 7: Visit a Belgian theme park – either Brupark or Walibi.
